Cupping therapy uses suction cups on the skin to lift and release tight fascia, ease muscle tension and improve circulation. Your therapist often combines it with hands-on massage in the same session. At RMT Metrotown in Metrotown, cupping is provided by a registered massage therapist as part of your treatment.
Book onlineCupping is useful for:
Your therapist places cups on the area and creates gentle suction, sometimes leaving them in place and sometimes gliding them across the skin. It feels like a firm pull rather than pressure. Cupping can leave round, bruise-like marks for a few days. They are normal, usually painless, and fade on their own. If you have an event where you would rather not have marks, tell us and we will plan around it.
Most people find it comfortable, more of a pulling sensation than pain. Your therapist adjusts the suction to you.
The suction draws blood toward the surface. The marks are temporary and fade within a few days to a week.
When it is part of a treatment by a registered massage therapist, it is covered by most extended health plans, and we direct bill.
Tell us what is going on and we will point you to the right session length or therapist.
